🌍 Dr Elif Selin Calik delivered a thought-provoking training session on Economic Challenges in the 21st Century in London! 🌍

‘I recently had the opportunity to engage with an insightful group of participants from the SaudiRoyalCourt and the IndonesianCentralBank.’

‘We dove deep into the evolving dynamics between China and the U.S., the energy future, and the transformative power of AI in reshaping economies.’

📊 Key Insights and Facts:

1️⃣ China-U.S. Economic Relations: With China now the largest exporter of goods globally, holding over 15% of global trade as of 2023, and the U.S. as the largest importer, we examined how tensions and partnerships between these two economic giants shape global supply chains. U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods, valued at approximately $370 billion, reveal the ongoing impact of trade policy.

2️⃣ Energy Future: Renewables are set to make up over 50% of global energy production by 2050, with solar and wind as leaders in capacity growth. Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 aims to increase renewable energy capacity to 50% of its energy mix, and Indonesia targets 23% renewable energy by 2025. With fossil fuel use projected to decrease by 20% by 2030, the need for innovative solutions is clear.

3️⃣ AI Transformation: AI could contribute up to $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030. The financial sector alone has seen up to 40% efficiency gains through AI-powered automation, forecasting, and risk analysis. However, data privacy, ethical usage, and job displacement were also key topics of concern among our participants.

💡 Student Learning Outcomes:

• Economic Resilience: The students examined tools to anticipate and adapt to market volatility, understanding the importance of diversified economic strategies.
• Energy Demand and Sustainability: They gained insights into balancing energy needs with sustainable goals, looking at case studies like Saudi Arabia and Indonesia’s renewable targets.
• AI Integration in Governance: Students explored AI’s potential to streamline banking operations, support decision-making, and enhance governance transparency.

The ambition and commitment of these students are a testament to a promising future in global economic leadership. I’m inspired to see their drive for sustainable and innovative solutions!
